Aït Benhaddou (Morocco)

Ait Benhaddou is an ancient fortified village near Ouarzazate and designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Several films have been shot there, including 'Sodom And Gomorrah'  'Gladiator'.

A river in the village was dry at that time.

Several families live here now, almost have moved to new dwellings on the other side of the river.

A buildings with crenel is grain storage also used for lookout.

Route des Kasbahs (Morocco)

Route des Kasbahs is an east-west road with a number of Kasbahs between Ouarzazate and Errachidia. Kasbah is a fortified building with walls.

A lush oasis on Draa River. It's said to be one of the most scenic oasis among Route des Kasbahs.

Wheat, vegetables, dates, olive, fig and so on are cultivated in the oasis.

An oasis on Dades River, another river along Loute des Kasbahs.

Kasbah de Tifoultoute   It was used for the location of the movie 'Lawrence of Arabia'.

Marrakesh (Morocco)

Marrakesh is located, almost in the middle of Morocco, in hilly districts of 450m above sea level at the foot of the Atlas Mountains.

Minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque    It's 69 m tall and a symbol of Marrakesh.

Palais el Badi, a palace built by Ahmad al-Mansur, Sultan of the Saadi dynasty.

It's now in ruins.

Maze-like alleys in Medina

Djemaa el Fna,  a plaza and market place in Marrakesh's medina quarter.

Djemaa el Fna means "assembly of the dead", referring to public executions on the plaza around 1050 AD.

During the day orange juice stalls are lining up.  At night the plaza fills with various kinds of stalls.

Volubilis (Morocco)

Volubilis is a partly excavated Roman city in Morocco situated near the city of Fes.  It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Triumphal arch of Caracalla, Temple of Jupiter, Public Bath, Basilica and so on have been excavated and reconstructed.

Decumanus Maximus (Main street)     The street was paved, with footways on either side.

The mosaic on floors and walls has been left as it was.

Landscape of Fez, an old city near from Volubilis.    The old medina (Fes el Bali) in Fez is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Fez has three main districts; Fes el Bali, Fes Jdid and the French-created Ville nouvelle.

Royal Palace       It's a residence for the King of Morocco to stay in Fez.
